LOOKING FOR A 4-STAR MAYFAIR HOTEL THAT WON’T BREAK THE BANK?

You’ve come to the right place because I stayed at the boutique Washington Mayfair Hotel at a fraction of the price of better-known Mayfair hotels! I think it’s a great place to stay if you want to be moments from London’s top attractions and within a short walk of Buckingham Palace!

No time to read the whole review? I 100% recommend you book your stay at the Washington Mayfair Hotel in London – I loved it there and think you will too!

If you’re looking for an affordable 4-star hotel in Mayfair (one of London’s most expensive districts), you’ll discover why the Washington Mayfair Hotel in London is perfect for you.

You can’t beat the Washington Hotel on Curzon Street’s fantastic location, award-winning restaurant, gym, and comfortable guest rooms.

Let’s look at everything you need to know about staying at one of the best value hotels in super swanky Mayfair. It’s a real hidden gem!

When it comes to exploring London, I know that finding an affordable 4-star hotel right in the heart of luxurious Mayfair can feel like looking for a unicorn, as it’s one of London’s most expensive and sought-after areas.

I worked in London for years and often stayed in the city centre after attending work-related functions, because I didn’t want a huge taxi fare on top of the cost of a night out or to have to run for the last train home!

I still visit London frequently and always look for affordable luxury places to stay.

Recently, I stayed overnight at the Washington Hotel, a cosy Mayfair hotel just five minutes from Green Park station and only a 15-minute walk from the buzz of Chinatown and “theatreland”.

In this article, I will highlight my city break at the Washington Mayfair Hotel in London.

Check-In at the Washington Mayfair

I was well looked after when I arrived at the Washington Mayfair Hotel. The cheery doorman held the door open for me and directed me to the receptionist, who was efficient, friendly, and quick to check me in.

Reception Decor at the Washington Mayfair Hotel London

The stylish Art Deco reception areas have tasteful Chinese influences throughout. There were big plump red leather chairs, Chinese pottery, big picture windows looking out onto Curzon Street, and lovely welcoming staff.

I must say the one thing this hotel does really well is service. It feels like everyone is part of one big family.

Standard Double Room at The Washington Mayfair

I stayed in one of the hotel’s standard double rooms, which was a decent size for a central London hotel. I’ve certainly stayed in smaller – and paid far more for the pleasure!

The Bedroom

The double (queen-size) bed was supportive and comfortable, and I enjoyed a great night’s sleep. It might have been a tad cosy for two, but it was perfect for me as a solo traveller.

I loved the crisp white bed linen, and the Goldilocks pillows (neither too soft nor too hard) were just perfect. The duvet was satisfyingly thick and heavy without making me feel overheated.

A good-sized desk was opposite the bed, with a wall-mounted flat-screen TV and tea and coffee-making facilities for the all-important morning cuppa. It’s not a huge space, but it was sparkling clean and perfectly adequate for a short stay.

My room was on the 4th floor and had a large picture window, allowing plenty of natural light to flood into the room. After dark, the thickly padded curtains blocked out all the light, and there was no street noise to wake this light sleeper. A huge bonus – especially in a city centre hotel!

The Ensuite Bath

The ensuite bathroom was a pleasant surprise, with a full-sized soaker tub, a great power shower, and a good supply of Crabtree & Evelyn toiletries.

The little vanity mirror, which lit up, was a nice touch, as was the provision of bathrobes – although they were distinctly more utilitarian than luxurious – they had definitely seen a few years of service! In contrast, the large bath towels were beautifully fluffy.

The only downside to the room was that some of the decor showed signs of age, and there was a large water stain on one of the curtains.

Madisons: The Washington Mayfair Restaurant & Bar

Madisons is the hotel’s restaurant, open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

While I’ve often found hotel food bland and instantly forgettable, that was not the case for the tasty food at the Washington Mayfair. I’ve eaten in enough London hotels to say the Washington Hotel offers excellent dining options.

Breakfast (Smart Casual)

Breakfast is a buffet service with plenty of choices, whether you prefer a hearty English breakfast or a lighter “Continental” breakfast.

You can pick your favourites for the English breakfast from crispy bacon, thick, tasty sausages, scrambled, fried or poached eggs, baked beans, juicy mushrooms and toast. You certainly won’t need any lunch!

Alternatively, choose from cereals, pastries, charcuterie, yoghurt, fruit and juices. And there’s plentiful good coffee or tea to go with your food.

It was fabulous to stay in the heart of Mayfair for the night and to be able to walk along Piccadilly into Chinatown for dinner!

Washington Mayfair Gym

Are you wondering, “Does the Washington Mayfair have a gym?” It does, and while I didn’t have time (on this trip) to use the gym, the state-of-the-art fitness centre is well-equipped with cardio machines, weight machines and more.

Final Thoughts: The Washington Mayfair Review

If you’re looking for a 4-star hotel in the heart of fashionable Mayfair, I have no hesitation in recommending the Washington Hotel Curzon Street.

In addition to the comfortable rooms and other amenities, the service was exemplary, and the food and drinks were good.

The best thing about this hidden hotel gem is that you will be on the doorstep of some of London’s top attractions, with Buckingham Palace, Bond Street, and Oxford Street all within walking distance.

The only negative is that the hotel could do with some cosmetic updating, but the location and service far outweigh this, making the Washington Mayfair Hotel a top choice for your next London stay.

NB: I paid for my own stay. All views are my own.
