What to Buy in Jersey
While Jersey is famous worldwide for its honey-coloured cows, creamy milk, and delicious Jersey Royal new potatoes, many of the other unique products from skilled local artisans can make some of the best souvenirs from Jersey. Here are some of the ones I think you and your loved ones will cherish:
1. Black Butter
While it sounds awful, trust me when I say that traditional Jersey black butter is delicious! This jam-like spread with medieval origins blends apples, cider, sugar, spices, liquorice and lemons into a real local favourite.
Traditionally spread over freshly baked crusty bread (with lashings of Jersey butter), it’s also delicious on scones with cream and tasty with white meats.
Good to know: Jersey black butter is suitable for vegetarians and vegans.
Find it in stock at La Mare Vineyard in St Mary or La Maison du Jersey, 33 King Street, St. Helier.

2. Jersey Inspired Jewellery
Jersey has long been the home of talented jewellery designers, producing items you will not find anywhere else. Add to that a favourable tax regime, which means you can buy jewellery slightly cheaper in Jersey than in the UK, and you’re onto a winner!
These are some of my favourites:
Jersey Granite Jewellery
If you want to take a piece of Jersey home with you, why not select a statement piece made from Jersey’s beautiful pink granite – the sparkling rock that forms the island’s cliffs, farmhouses and castles? This stunning igneous rock is expertly shaped and polished by skilled local jewellers into very wearable items.
I love my Jersey pink granite ‘Jersey Bean’ necklace and get lots of compliments about it! The Jersey cow cufflinks are gorgeous, too; I may have to pick some up on my next visit as a gift for someone special.
Where to find it: Jersey Pearl in St Ouen or Jersey Inspired in St Helier.
Ormer Shell Jewellery
Jersey Ormers are a highly prized delicacy, with beautiful rainbow-coloured mother-of-pearl shells. Jersey Ormer jewellery captures the shells’ natural beauty, transforming it into wearable art.
TIP: Look out for the stunning Jersey Ormer flip-flop collection – it’s my absolute favourite!
Find the collection at Jersey Inspired, King St, St Helier (opposite Superdrug)
3. Jersey Lily Bulbs
A Jersey Lily is one of the best things to buy in Jersey for the keen gardener! This pretty pink lily (Amaryllis belladonna), also known as the naked lady lily, blooms in September and October and is grown widely across Jersey. It’s the perfect way to add a vibrant pop of Barbie pink to any garden or patio.
You can pick up a pack of Jersey Lily bulbs from Ransoms or St Peter’s Garden Centres (and stop for a bite, as they both have fabulous tea rooms. And unbelievably good cakes.)
4. Pound Notes
Did you know that Jersey issues its own currency? It’s also one of the few places in the British Isles where you can still get pound notes! Whether you’re a keen numismatist or simply want to keep a small memento of your trip, pocketing one of those little green notes is worth it.
Good to know: While you can spend English or Scottish notes in Jersey, you should exchange your Jersey notes before leaving the island, as UK shops will not accept them!
5. Jersey Cow ‘Portraits’
Dainty little Jersey cows with their mesmerising brown eyes must be the prettiest in the world – and they produce the creamiest milk!
On my last trip to St Helier, I stumbled across the cutest little boutique selling gorgeous hand-drawn Jersey cow ‘portraits’. The wonderful husband and wife team could even tell me which herd the cows came from, what their names were – and how to go and see ‘the girls’ if I wanted 🙂
If I’d not been travelling with a tiny (full) cabin bag, I’d have bought several there and then. As it is, I’ve ordered them online instead!
Do pop into Jones of Jersey at 16 Charing Cross, St. Helier, to check out their range of locally crafted gifts. Don’t bank on walking away empty-handed 🙂
6. Painted Granite Pebbles
Strolling through Jersey’s historic Beresford Street Fish Market, I didn’t expect to find a tiny craft shop selling the prettiest painted granite pebbles and a host of other charming gift items.
With a licence to take pebbles from Jersey’s beaches, Jo transforms these humble items into glorious, vibrant works of art. She also works with ethically sourced scallop shells.
Pssst! You can learn exactly how Jo transforms scallop shells into artwork in her 5-star rated book – Art on Scallop Shells!
Jo also offers pebble-painting workshops at £15 per person ( for 3 or more students), or £30 for a 60-minute one-to-one lesson.
Find Jo’s Painted Pebbles just after the fish stalls in the fish market.
7. Artisan Homewares
The lovely ladies at MollyMac design colourful tea towels, table runners, cards, prints, and gifts in their Jersey studio, and they sell these from a cosy stall in Jersey’s Central Market.
I couldn’t resist a tea towel with a fabulous Jersey cow print and wish I’d had more space in my hand luggage to take more items home with me!
The historic market is well worth a visit, so do drop in to see Lisa and Joanne at MollyMac as you browse.
8. Jersey Wonders
Oooh – Jersey wonders! These deep-fried, twisted, doughnut-like sweet treats are always popular at local events. Once cooked by legions of Jersey housewives, today you’ll find ‘Wonders’ at local fairs and events. Or you can pick them up, freshly baked, Babs in Grouville.
Fun Fact: Jersey housewives only fry Wonders when the tide is going out. Find out more about this traditional Jersey dish here.
9. Jersey Beans
Historically, the Jersey diet included so many beans that English ‘incomers’ to the island named local people ‘Jersey beans’!
The most well-known bean dish – Jersey Bean Crock – is a hearty bean and pork casserole, typically served with crusty bread. You can buy a traditional bag of mixed beans for a Jersey bean crock from most food outlets on the island.
10. Crapauds
Fun fact: Guernsey people have called Jersey people ‘crapauds’ for years – after the warty brown toads (bufo bufo) found only in the island! Today, Jersey locals often refer to themselves as crapauds too!
One stylish way to have your own crapaud is to pick up one of the limited edition bronze crapaud statues from the Catherine Best design studio.
For a more budget-friendly option, you could treat a loved one to a set of cute crapaud cufflinks from Aurum Jewellers in the main St Helier high street.
11. Handmade Coastal Ceramics
Jane James is a well-established ceramics artist who makes unique coastal ceramics mounted on driftwood. These evocative pieces capture the charm, character, and natural beauty of Jersey’s coastline.
Good to know: At Jane’s shop, you can watch the modest team making their ceramics and viewing a large range of them and other local arts and crafts. You can also enjoy refreshments at the art cafe.
12. Apple Brandy
For centuries Jersey was covered with orchards and produced vast quantities of cider. Today, apples from all over the island are harvested to make a fine apple brandy, produced by La Mare Vineyards.
With notes of baked apples, muscovado sugar and subtle smoky spice, it’s a very drinkable brandy that you’re sure to want to take home with you!
Find it at La Mare Vineyard, St Mary, Jersey.
13. Jersey Biltong
While a relatively new introduction to the island, Jersey biltong is highly prized, as it’s made from Jersey reared, grass-fed beef.
Order your Jersey biltong online, then head over to the Smokey Shed in the northern parish of St John to collect it!
14. Jersey Lavender
Jersey Lavender has been a family-run business in Jersey since 1983, growing, harvesting and distilling lavender to produce pure lavender oil that is one of the most popular souvenirs from Jersey.
When you visit the Lavender Farm, you can treat yourself to something from the wide range of toiletries and perfume products. The friendly, chatty staff are always on hand to answer any questions.
Find the Lavender Farm in the west of the island. The address for your satnav is Rue du Pont Marquet, JE3 8DS.
15. Jersey Royals
I couldn’t end this list without suggesting you pick up a bag of Jersey Royal new potatoes! Possibly Jersey’s most famous product, this iconic little ‘spud’ arrives earlier to market than in the UK, thanks to Jersey’s mild climate.
TIP: On your day of departure, pick up a bag of these delicious potatoes from one of the ‘honesty boxes’ dotted around the island. They’ll have been harvested that day and will give you a lovely taste of Jersey when you get home 🙂
